| This zone traces the history of Japanese newspapers, starting with incidents and undercurrents of the final years of the Edo period. Six chapters in this history are examined - the dawn of newspapers, the establishment of modern newspapers, the age of military censorship, the birth of Japanese democracy and newspaper revival, the growth of high-quality newspapers and newspapers in the age of diversified media.

| The NIE National Center plays a key role in advancing the use of newspapers in schools nationwide by providing a forum for sharing know-how on teaching NIE classes and by conducting sample classes for visitors to experience firsthand Newspapers in Education. It is the first such center in the world.

| This facility allows a group of visitors to take news stories they write or ads they create and place them in mock newspapers. The studio assists in proof production of newspapers and newsletters put out by schools, groups, companies, etc. reservation in advance is required.

| This library stores on microfilm or in digital format every page of every newspaper printed by every daily newspaper company that is a member of Nihon Shinbun Kyokai (the Japan Newspaper Publishers & Editors Association, NSK) - from those companies' very first editions to their latest. Admission to the library is free of charge to the general public. In addition, pay-per-view information services of newspapers on the Web are available free of charge here.

| Newspapers are able to deliver to readers information that has been gathered through an extensive coverage system and edited and printed in the shortest time possible. In this section of the museum, visitors are given a close look at newspapers today and at the tasks handled in reporting, editing, production, delivery, sales, advertising and cultural events of various sections of newspaper companies. The goings-on of news agencies are also highlighted. |
